We believe using the right benchmark is crucial throughout the portfolio management process. Benchmarking allows investors to gauge the relative performance of their portfolios and understand whether they are on the right track to meet their investment objective. However, many investors fail to understand the principles of investing from the perspectives of both risk and return; therefore, they often measure their portfolio performance simply against a market index, or combination of indexes.
We believe your investment portfolio should be constructed in the context of your individual financial big picture and the understanding of what investment return is needed to achieve your ultimate financial goal without taking excessive risk than you should bear from both money sense and psychological sense. Therefore, it is also our believe that success should not be measured against an arbitrary standard market index. It should be measured against your own personal index. The goals is to maximize your after-tax wealth, net of fees, consistent with your risk tolerance and time horizon.
Establish your personal index - the benchmark for risk and return expectations that aligns with your investment objectives and risk profile.
Determine what kinds of risks present the best opportunities to meet your personal index and consider potential sources of drag to portfolio, such as fees and taxes.
Select investment vehicles and/or managers. As we select investments, we check back to ensure alignment to your risk and cost budgets.
To make sure that the portfolio remains on track to meet their goals as planned, we regularly check in on the alignment of the portfolio’s progress and your goals.

In order to properly establish your personal index that serves as a benchmark to measure the success of your portfolio, we must understand your full financial picture and risk profile (the combination of your risk capacity and tolerance.) Therefore, we only provide investment management service to clients that also engage us for financial planning or in our financial fitness program.
